How do I appear offline on Slack?

To appear offline on Slack, you can adjust your status and notification settings to give the impression that you are not actively using the platform. Here’s a simple guide to help you do that:

  1. Set Your Status:

    • Open Slack and click on your profile picture.
    • Select "Update your statsu" from the dropdown menu.
    • You can choose a pre-set status like "Away" or create a custom status. To appear offline, you might set a status like "Out of Office" or "Offline".
    • Set the duration for how long you want this status to be displayed.
  2. Pause Notifications:

    • Click on your profile picture again and select "Pause notifications".
    • Choose the duration for which you want to pause notifications. This will prevent Slack from sending you alerts, making it seem like you are not online.
  3. Adjust Active Status:

    • Slack automatically shows when you are active. To appear less active, you can close the Slack app or browser tab when not in use.
    • On mobile, you can log out of the app or disable background app refresh to prevent showing as active.
  4. Use Do Not Disturb (DND) Mode:

    • Click on your profile picture and select "Do Not Disturb".
    • Set the schedule to receive notifications.
    • You'll only receive notifications in the hours you choose. Outside of those times, notifications will be paused.

By following these steps, you can effectively appear offline on Slack, giving you some peace and quiet when needed. Remember, while these steps help you appear offline, they do not completely hide your online presence from others.
