How do I add a person to a Slack conversation?

Quickly include new members in your Slack conversations by using the "Invite others" option within any chat or channel.

Here’s a simple guide to help you do it:

For Channels:

  1. Open Slack: Start by opening your Slack application on your desktop or mobile device.

  2. Select the channel: Navigate to the channel where you want to add a new person. Channels are usually listed on the left side of your Slack interface.

  3. Add People:

    • On desktop, click on the channel name at the top of the screen to open the channel details.
    • Go to "Members" tab
  4. Invite People:

    • Look for the “Add people”option
    • Click or tap on it, and a new window or screen will appear.
  5. Enter the Name: Type the name or email of the person you want to add. Slack will suggest names from your workspace as you type.

  6. Send Invitation: Once you’ve selected the person, click “Add” or to send them an invitation to join the channel.

For Direct Messages (DMs):

  1. Open the DM: Go to the direct message conversation where you want to add someone.

  2. Create a Group DM:

    • On desktop, click the name(s) in the conversation header.
    • Click "Add people to this conversation"
  3. Select the Person: Type the name of the person you’d like to add, then select them from the list and click "Next". You can then select an option to Include conversation history.

  4. Confirm: Click "Done" and select "Confirm" when you’re ready.

By following these steps, you can easily add someone to a Slack conversation, whether it’s a channel or a direct message.
