It's important to note that you can only delete your own account and it's called 'deactivation'.
If you're an administrator or owner of a workspace, you might need to transfer ownership or administrative rights before proceeding.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
-
Log into Slack: Start by logging into your Slack account on a web browser. You cannot delete your account through the mobile app, so make sure you're using a desktop or laptop.
-
Access account settings: Once logged in, click on your profile picture.
-
Open account Settings: In the profile window, click on the "More" button (three dots) and select "Account settings" from the dropdown menu. This will redirect you to the account settings page.
-
Find deactivation option: Scroll down to the bottom of the account settings page. Look for the "Deactivate account" section.
-
Deactivate account: Click on "Deactivate account." You may be asked to confirm your decision. Follow the prompts to complete the deactivation process.
-
Confirmation: Once your account is deactivated, you will receive a confirmation email. Your account will no longer be accessible, and your profile will be removed from the workspace.
Remember, deactivating your account does not delete messages or files you’ve shared in the workspace. If you need to remove those, you might have to do it manually before deactivating your account.
If you change your mind, you can reactivate your account by contacting the workspace administrator.
